Hot on the heels of his ClekClekBoom release, which showcased his incisive take
on bass heavy club tracks, Bambounou has the honour of joining the 50Weapons
stable with this trio of similarly jagged grooves. In many ways the Cobe EP is
the quintessential 50Weapons release - a canny melding of syncopated techno and
melody eschewing low-end which reflects the off kilter productions of the
label's owners Modeselektor - "Chrome" is a tracky piece of dry techno with
swung garage hi-hats and sub-aquatic bleeps, while "Mass" wraps its shackling
percussion around ghettotech inspired vocal cut-ups. Finally "Deepstaria"
combines heavy kicks with a twisting Drexciyan synth line and acidic synths
that also recall Boddika's "Electron". Big tip!
