The Ray Makers have a simple modus operandi: to combine technology
with harmony, humor, and heart.
Transplants from St. Louis, Missouri, and now denizens of
Hollywood, CA, Lance Rock and Chris Curtis formed the band in 1998
as a reaction against the excesses of dance culture and the overall
mediocrity of pop music in general. Ensconced in their musical
laboratory, electronic alchemists Lance and Chris have managed to
blend a variety of styles into one satisfying aural potion,
gleefully pillaging the last 40 years of recorded music for
ingredients & inspiration.Equally informed by Moroder and My
Bloody Valentine, by Brian Wilson and Severed Heads, The Ray
Makers' souped-up, spaced out electronic sound attempts to bridge
the gap between musical past and future.
Unlike many electronic acts, The Ray Makers are known for their
incendiary live shows, full of energy and visual stimulation. They
are usually joined in live performance by theremin player Sukho Lee
of cult Asian/American act Seksu Roba, and award-winning visual
artist Flem, whose eye-blasting projections and slides provide a
fitting backdrop to the sonic rush.
They have appeared live with Add N to (X), Stereo Total, Ladytron,
I Am The World Trade Center, Momus, Majestic, Golden Boy, Ursula
1000, DJ Me DJ You, Anubian Lights, Seksu Roba, From Bubblegum To
Sky, The Sugarplastic, and Tiga. The Ray Makers have released
records on Crippled Dick Hot Wax! (Berlin) and Transistor
Recordings (LA). They have appeared on compilations from Eenie
