BOE X is a special landmark release for the buzzed about London label boe
recordings. Featuring artists both familiar and new to the imprint, it's a
sonic snapshot of the label's sound wrapped in celebratory sleeve artwork
and limited to a vinyl only run of 500 copies.
Back on the label after a short hiatus is much talked about Ladzinski whose
"Looking Back" track has all the elements required to get the dancefloor
moving. It's a peak time club house track for sweaty clubs with low
ceilings. Its strong chord progression and female vocals echo a collage of
vintage New York garage and Detroit Techno sounds that combine to give
Ladzinski's energetic but deep sound.
Nils Anthes is a relative newcomer in production terms but sounding like a
seasoned professional, his cut "Lessons" is a trip into lush analogue
textures and detroit-esque electronic soul. The track features a relentless
warm kick and bass that slowly gather peripheral layers of melody and a
haunting female vocal. It picks up new elements and peaks into a perfect
end of night track fitting for those who love house music with warmth and
personality.
Marc Vacher is a brand new artist and boe is very proud to present his
first release. Marc is a trained drummer and keyboard player and it's
easily shown on "I Know" with its snappy hand-played drum rolls, thumping
kicks and warm melodies. Resonant of Strictly Rhythm with a touch of the
productions found on the Wax label, it's a stomping modern garage gem that
has the punch to smash the dance floor and the harmony to get people onto
their feet. It has a neat song-like arrangement ebbing and flowing through
the moods and takes the listener on a true journey during its 8 minute
duration.
Azuni round off the EP with a classic warm deep house track eschewing their
slight switch in sound from their previous solo releases. "(Baby Don't You)
Make Me High" is more akin to their remix of Remember on BOE009, it has
super-stripped down beats and searing hit hats laid down over a delayed saw
bassline and some NY style modulated chords. Signature vocal snippets, a
delicate organ lead and subtle strings make this track perfect for getting
people onto the dance floor or keeping them there in the early hours.
