█ █ Wendess is the Opeth of black metal, in all honesty. Sure, █ █
█ █ they don't play the same music, but they have the same █ █
█ █ aspects. Wedness is actually very good, and as for this █ █
█ █ being the first thing I've heard out of them, it leaves me █ █
█ █ craving more. This isn't hit and miss, you'll surely enjoy █ █
█ █ it. █ █
█ █ So, you're probably wanting me to explain that Opeth █ █
█ █ analogy, right? It wouldn't make sense to you after hearing █ █
█ █ Wendess and Opeth. Well, Wendess has that ability to go █ █
█ █ from massively intense to soft and acoustic with ease, and █ █
█ █ vice versa. Actually, they're really good at fusing █ █
█ █ emotional acoustic parts into their music. As we all know, █ █
█ █ Opeth is notorious for doing this, so I thought it was █ █
█ █ worth the mention. As for the reference itself, the two █ █
█ █ bands do not sound the same, so you'll probably be █ █
█ █ disappointed if you're looking Opeth-esque release. There's █ █
█ █ no death metal to be found here, only black metal in the █ █
█ █ emotional vein. █ █
█ █ There's a lot of positive to Wendess. The riffing is █ █
█ █ excellent, which is an aspect many black metal bands fail █ █
█ █ very hard on. No one loves one tremolo riff for seven █ █
█ █ minutes, am I right? The riff work is an A+ in itself, and █ █
█ █ the switching between acoustic. I could care less if the █ █
█ █ extreme parts were even there because the acoustics are █ █
█ █ really great. They sound great, there's a lot of chord █ █
█ █ variations which sounds dark. Though, it's cool that the █ █
█ █ extreme parts are still there. It's good to have some █ █
█ █ variation to keep it interesting. Wendess reminds me of a █ █
█ █ lot of bands such as Judas Iscariot and Leviathan. I'm not █ █
█ █ sure if others would see the comparisons, but I can hear it █ █
█ █ when I listen. The vocals are strong and add nicely to the █ █
█ █ effect of the music. Some parts sound a bit strained, but I █ █
█ █ think it actually positively effects the music. Maybe the █ █
█ █ vocalist is trying to add some of his own despair and anger █ █
█ █ into his music..I'll never know, I'm not him. The drum work █ █
█ █ is actually really good too. For once in a long while, █ █
█ █ here's a black metal band who has a drummer who can do more █ █
█ █ than blast beats. There's a ton of variation in the █ █
█ █ drumming, including a lot of progressive drumming sound. █ █
█ █ The fills are also nice..giving the music that extra moment █ █
█ █ of epicness that you only hear when you're deep into the █ █
█ █ music. Though, there is blast beats, which makes sense █ █
█ █ because it is indeed an extreme form of music and it's one █ █
█ █ of the standards. █ █
█ █ There's a big suicidal black metal sound here, but I really █ █
█ █ don't think Wendess was going for that because of their █ █
█ █ lyrical themes. Nature really has nothing to do with █ █
█ █ ridding yourself from the world, I don't think. Though, █ █
█ █ this band is an extremely good listen. Getting attached to █ █
█ █ an album in a short amount of time isn't really something █ █
█ █ I've done, but for this it just happened. After completing █ █
█ █ this debut, I'd surely look into future releases. Wendess █ █
█ █ has a lot of potential, and great writing skills. I hope █ █
█ █ they expand even further. █ █
