New York based label Freshchest Records made plenty noise
in the early 00s indie hip-hop ciruit, releasing both full
length albums and 12" wax from the likes of Supastition,
DutchMassive, Oktober, Cunninlynguists and J-Live. In 2001
the production duo running the label, Johnny Cock and JL,
released their debut album as Freshchest Prose. Featuring
many then-hot underground acts and all in-house production
from the duo, the "Jabs And Cuts Volume One" came out on
both CD and vinyl. Unfortunately, it wasn't followed by
more volumes (label was defunct around the mid 00s) but
take the chance courtesy of GCP to re-live some of these
gritty, clever street smart beats along with top notch
lyricism. And oh - it's tagged correctly too (an album by
artist Freshchest Prose, not a VA album).
Hip Hop compilations never come this dope no more!
