_description.: Jewdyssee, a German band that revives the Yiddish
language, Yiddish songs and puts all that in a modern
jacket!
Jewdyssee didn't really wrote new Yiddish songs, but
did cover most of the famous Yiddish classics like Bei
mir bist du sheijn, Glik, Beltz, mayn shteytele, and
also Hebrew classics like Hava nagila, Hinematov, put
them in a modern jacket and here you have 5773, their
2012 album.
The band is formed by Maya Saban (half Israeli, half
German woman) and a bunch of musicians from different
ethics. The group shows a clear message, you don't need
to be Jewish to love Yiddish and you don't need to be
old to listen to Yiddish classics.
Nobody in this band speaks Yiddish, the lead singer
Maya Saban, you hear she has an accent and doesn't
speak Yiddish in real life. Also all the songs they
used have Litvish texts, while the original often
hadn't.
