Public Information's 6th edition surveys
the stunningly evocative cache of
Canada's Parry Music Library during what
would be a formative period for many of
us. It's quite easily our favourite LP
from this young and highly impressive
label, collating 25 miniatures scoping
all manner of proto-Balearic house,
twirling synth-terludes, dream-sequence
disco, and choral drone from the likes
of Johnny Hawksworth, Harry Forbes,
Hermann Langschwert and Kerry Beaumont,
among others, and all during a period
that's surely of great interest to those
over the age of 25. Essentially these
are the interludes, backing tracks, and
cues which might have been used on those
odd imported series which were
syndicated for early morning kids TV and
the educational programmes for school
narrated by dudes with massive beards,
wooly jumpers and Carl Sagan-style
voices - exactly the sort of stuff that
inspired Boards Of Canada and which
osmotically seeped into the sub-
conscious of a whole generation. If,
like us, you were up at the crack of
dawn to boggle at badly dubbed French-
Canadian kids programmes and remember
attempting to "hack" your primary
school's first Acorn BBC Micro, this
record's bound to have an impact. You
can probably see that we're getting a
bit wet and nostalgic over here, but
it's bloody cold and drizzly outside and
this record is exactly what we need
right now! We'd recommend checking

setting aside your next saturday morning
to get acquainted with this very special
LP.
