│║ This was definitely the best plaque these guys ║ │
│║ put out. Unfortunately it was as well the last ║ │
│║ one due to line up changes and fashion changes ║ │
│║ during the atrocious 90s. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ æLast TrainÆ was a more solid effort than the ║ │
│║ self titled first album because of the song ║ │
│║ writing, structure and in general, it is a more ║ │
│║ mature album by all means. So what is the ║ │
│║ difference between this one and the self titled ║ │
│║ debut? In its basic form they are just the same ║ │
│║ but on this album the musicianship is tightened, ║ │
│║ thick (so to speak which does not mean it is ║ │
│║ heavier) and they sound more cohesive. They ║ │
│║ still managed to craft songs with song along ║ │
│║ choruses, catchy as a lolly pop and melodic as ║ │
│║ well. It is not killer or heavy as Iron Maiden ║ │
│║ or even Scorpions circa æCrazy WorldÆ but still ║ │
│║ is an enjoyable piece of music. This still goes ║ │
│║ in the vein of Slaughter, White Lion, Firehouse, ║ │
│║ sometimes maybe Skid Row but mainly Cinderella ║ │
│║ on æHeartbreak StationÆ. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ In regards to the songs there is not much to ║ │
│║ tell except that there is only one fast song and ║ │
│║ actually the fastest song they ever wrote: æDead ║ │
│║ end driveÆ and it very much in the same league ║ │
│║ as Judas Priest on Painkiller being an awesome ║ │
│║ tune and really pumping pace. The next heaviest ║ │
│║ and fastest track is æFairweather friendÆ which ║ │
│║ goes in Skid Row fashion and even double bass ║ │
│║ drums are used. There is a Rolling Stone cover ║ │
│║ on æGimme shelterÆ and this rocks out quite ║ │
│║ well. The radio friendly songs are æCrazyÆ, ║ │
│║ æHollows eveÆ and æVirtue and viceÆ which is a ║ │
│║ very nice tune with cool vocals. Again Stephen ║ │
│║ Patrick delivered in the vocal department yet ║ │
│║ this time he transmits even more emotion and I ║ │
│║ would say this is the standout point of the ║ │
│║ entire album. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ æLove is on the wayÆ is the first ballad and ║ │
│║ this is the first really romantic tune. It ║ │
│║ sounds a little sappy but since it is guitar ║ │
│║ driven it avoids sounding over sugared.Æ Tuesday ║ │
│║ MorningÆ on the other hand sounds much better ║ │
│║ being about a motherÆs passing away. In here ║ │
│║ they delivered a solid ballad which reminds me a ║ │
│║ lot of Steelheart without the high pitched ║ │
│║ vocals and a bass driven melody. The guitars are ║ │
│║ really soft, almost on all the songs but this ║ │
│║ enables the band to not use keyboards, or at ║ │
│║ least, I cannot hear them anywhere. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The title track on the other hand sounds very ║ │
│║ different from the rest of the songs and it is ║ │
│║ very interesting. It is bass driven and the ║ │
│║ lyrical content while cheesy demonstrates ║ │
│║ glimpses of the path Stephen Patrick will follow ║ │
│║ on his solo career with darker lyrics Dio- ║ │
│║ influenced. The guitar solo is very simple and ║ │
│║ rhythm so it is not remarkable at all. This song ║ │
│║ is basically a ballad and it sounds quite ║ │
│║ similar, in the end, to the country-cowboy style ║ │
│║ used by Cinderella on æHeartbreak StationÆ. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ In general this album still lacks balls being ║ │
│║ the year it was put out. It falls short because ║ │
│║ there were lots of bands putting out heavier ║ │
│║ albums and due to the lack of promotion and ║ │
│║ videos it was definitely not going to impact ║ │
│║ radio stations the way it was supposed to. So ║ │
│║ yes, this is a commercial poppy White Lion-eske ║ │
│║ album. Far more mature than its predecessor with ║ │
│║ outstanding vocal delivery and good songs with a ║ │
│║ darker tone in the lyrics. I enjoy it a lot so ║ │
│║ if you can download it and give it a chance you ║ │
│║ might like it as well. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ By the way, I must mention the cover which is ║ │
│║ very dark cool in red blood, but the booklet ║ │
│║ inside simply sucks. It is a pity if did not get ║ │
│║ the chance to live up its expectations even thou ║ │
│║ it was produced by the amazing David Zaffiro. ║ │
