Putrid Death Sorcery, French duo NECROWRETCHÆS first full-length on Century
Media Records, is filled with 11 tracks of thrashy, blackened death metal
from start to finish. This is raw death metal thatÆs a throwback to a time
before genre fetishism û when metal was just metal. NECROWRETCH arenÆt
concerned with technical wankery or the corny br00tality thatÆs currently
all the rage in the genre. There is brutality here, to be sure, but itÆs not
the over-the-top EC comics variety that most modern death metal is obsessed
with. Instead, they focus on pounding the listener with a barrage of
primitive death and black metal riffing, angry shrieking, and nihilistic,
hateful lyrics. At a brisk 35 minutes in length, Putrid Death Sorcery, is
over before you know it. But like a Viking war party, it will leave you
lying in itÆs wake û a beaten, bloodied mess. But with a smile on your face.
