since he joined his first band as a drummer in 1986, richard van
kruysdijk has released several albums and 12"s with other
group-projects as well as solo-projects.
after a successful soloconcert in paradiso amsterdam in 1992 he
was offered a recordcontract by the german label unclean
production. this resulted in the first blindfold cd ("earshot"),
followed by several soloconcerts consisting of sequenced patterns
added to live vocals, keyboard-, drums- and guitarperformance
supported by videos on several screens and videoprojections.
also in 1992, he graduated cum laude from the royal academy of
arts in æs-hertogenbosch. during this time he also finished "inkt"
(ôinkö); a short surrealistic 16mm-film which premiered at the
ænederlandse film dagen, utrecht and was shown in several
theatres. in 1996 it was released on video on the "nether horror
collection" by cult classics. richard recently picked up on
audio-visuals by performing as vj soulslice at the e-lektrick
chair and sofa -nights at the effenaar and making a videoclip for
the track "no words", based on material from the tv8 programme '8
tracks', as well as creating the videoprojections during their
sonar lodge concerts.
late 1992 he joined the german eclectic band phallus dei with whom
he has since then released several cd's as well as a mixed-mode
cd/cd-rom ("luxuria") on the paragoric label (ger / u.k.) and
various samplercontributions. they toured germany in 1994. triple
x records (usa) released a compilation cd in 1997. phd2 is phallus
dei's dark ambient-project.
in 1997 he also started a new project: sonar lodge, and quickly
built up a good reputation with live-concerts and adventurous
releases. joined by marie-claudine vanvlemen on vocals, their
thought-provoking, multi-faceted sound provides an impressive
variety of jazz-tingled leftfield pop/dance music. they played in
several clubs in the netherlands; hedon, effenaar, 013, tivoli,
willem ii, zuidas, vrieshuis america, simplon, diogenes, mezz, and
festivals; valkhof festival, shine festival and (as part of
æsomethingÆ); tromp biδnnale, traces fest., oplaat fest., groene
engel, effenaar.
other current collaborations include: cellvoice: a collaboration
with sandor caron that released itÆs first 12ö on delsin records.
he also co- produced a track on the max 404 12" "the last days of
house music" (universal language) and co-produced a track for
aardvarck's ep's "spoken" and "donkey boy", plus he remixed a
track for sandor caron's ep "agenda". sonar lodge themselves are
remixed by renowned artists like: domu, attica blues, relaxo
abstracto, max 404. other musicians richard has recorded/played
with in the past and/or present include: michael moore, niels van
hoorn (legendary pink dots), bart maris, edward capel, jeroen van
vliet (paul van kemenade quintet), jules de vlam, bart van dongen,
jeroen doomernik, pascal vermeer, gitane demone, frans friederich
(dull schicksal), jan van de lest (clashing egos), hans sparla,
michel massot, bart maris, joerg lehnardt, ziya.
in 2000 sonar lodge co-founded music for speakers, a producers
collective annex record label, with aardvarck, madcap, david caron
and sandor caron. from their first output onward they have built
an increasing, worldwide following.
2003 marked the expansion of sonar lodge on stage into a four
piece live group; richard (drums, electronics, moog) and
marie-claudine (vocals) are joined by jazz-funk rooted double bass
player jules de vlam and renowned jazz keyboardist jeroen van
vliet on fender rhodes and wurlitzer. they toured in germany with
london elektricity (berlin, cologne, munich, hamburg, chemnitz,
dortmund, konstanz, darmstadt) as well as giving in concerts in
eindhoven and duesseldorf (with zuco 103), Æs-hertogenbosch
(festival boulevard), breda (mezz) and gent (10 days off).
born in burundi, marie-claudine vanvlemen grew up in belgium and
the netherlands. after playing with a wide variety of
(rock/pop/funk/soul/dance)groups, touring with max 404 (heineken
crossover tour) as well as working as a session vocalist for
various cd-productions, marie-claudine joined sonar lodge in 1997,
both in the studio as well as on stage.
