J Majik & Wickaman have been busy toiling away in their studio working on
their first studio album in over five years!
Entitled 'Out Of Sight', it oozes dancefloor dynamism. Stretching from
turbo-charged D&B to space-bound electro via gritty, grinding dubstep, it's a
killer from start to finish. And it's almost ready for consumption.
We say almost. Of course it's ready. We wouldn't be sending out this
communique if it wasn't. But no album of this scale should just be dropped
casually... We're building up to it, leaking out selected bangers to you
important DJs. And we mean bangers!
First up, 'Beyond Our Dreams'. Already anointed on Radio 1 with the blessing
of a 'Friction's Fire' accolade, it's the ideal balance of lush synth-soaked
euphoria and low-end mayhem. Opening with a spine-bruisingly emotional intro
we're soon thrown deep into a melting pot of bass brutality, bumping and
grinding to the nagging hook and pummelling kicks. As the track progresses
the euphoria and rasping heaviness soon entwine, giving it that classic J
Majik & Wickaman vibe while never resorting to type.
'Fight It' follows suit with similar mischief and muscular musicality. Paying
homage to the decades of dancefloor hedonism that both Majik and Wickaman
have played influential roles in, 'Fight It' ignites with a heady brew of icy
pads, pianos and a quintessential rave vocal. Suddenly the skippy beats and
crashing cymbals takeover, paving the way for one of the most beautifully
crafted wobble-basslines the duo have ever produced. Before long we're on the
biggest running man flex of our lives, writhing in each and every element as
they re-introduce them into the mix.
Two stunning slices of sonic science from two of the most on-point players in
the game. It's been a year since their Behind The Mask EPà Out Of Sight is
the reason why. We can't wait to play you the whole album. But for now, let's
enjoy these two cuts and give them the dancefloor dedication they deserve.
