with his recent 'organ language' project calm proved that he is a
musical genius, and this release on his own coveted music
conception imprint again shows us the emotional brilliance of his
music. 'the break of dawn pt 1' takes forward synths that are
stretched to breaking point, pacifying percussion, tender keys, a
floating yet driven bass and an earnest piano on an awe- inspiring
journey of pure beauty. 'the break of dawn pt 2' adds a different
flavour to the cut, with mesmerizing bongo percussion, a
bewitching synth groove, portly bass, poignant keys and affecting
strings. 'simple chords (straight mix)' is the cut which has many
in a lather, and it's not surprising, given its combination of
pressed soul touching looped keys and over-laid layered meandering
piano, urgent vaguely four to the floor percussion and flavoursome
brass. the strings add to the excitement, while the lavish
spreading sax that treats us to a jaw-dropping breakdown is
inspirational. for those lucky enough to get their hands on a
japanese pressing of this 12", they will get the added bonus of
'symphony' on the b side. this is a calming wonder of a track,
with watery splashing percussion, heaven reaching strings and
embracing keys.
