moodorama coming from regensburg certainly belongs to the most
interesting representatives of the dazzling spectrum lounge -
nujazz - deep house in the republic. on their previous two albums
"basement music" (1998) and "music for collapsing people" (2000)
áthey represented themselves as masters in the combination of
different styles and as experts of musical trends which confirms
that moodorama has received diverse remixjobs of among all czech,
marschmellows, justin as well as the french tΘlΘpopmusic.
martin senneborgen hails form the hip hop-scene. he has early
begun to be addicted to the magic of music and has tried soon with
the turntables and has worked as dj for years. in the meantime he
has collected more than 50.000 vinyl records - all these roots
have entered into the beginning of moodorama. trip hop and
downbeat have been the hip slogans that times and so the early
moodorama created their club-electronic with the melancholic voice
of kerstin huber as well as with dry and dallying beats.
in january 1999 martin sennebogen and robert zierhofer got to know
each other on the mutual dj'ing. both decided to make music
together from now on and robert replaced alexander eggl in the
producer's seat. due to this the sound of moodorama developed and
changed and resulted in the integration of jazz, latin, breakbeat,
reggae, easy listening, classic, ethno, big beat, deep house.
natural instruments such as guitar, contrabass, jazz- drum
appeared also on the programme and blend alluringly with
synthesizer and sequencers. but in contrast to some competing
colleges the songs of moodorama have not had the effect of being
unnatural or artificial. sennebogen and zierhofer have already
proved in the former á"music for collapsing people" their autonomy
and in their new album "listen" they understand how to catalyse
even concisely their personal preferences and diversity and
publish this convincingly as competent work. during the recording
there came up áa changing áinside the band. zierhofer left the
band after finishing recording áand sounddesigner bernhard frank,
keybordplayer and musician marco k÷stler as well as the musician
kerstin huber joined the band and brought in their ideas.
á"listen" is the third, but ámost impressive album of moodorama
with charming voices, prickly fender rhodes-passages and a certain
style which attracts the listener automatically. they said good-by
to stereodeluxe and do work now under audiopharm. there they have
already celebrated their start with the cool latin-house-track
"senhor meier vai no mino pitcu", for the tremendous successful
serial ábrazilectro.
in the meantime moodorama is in a great demand that they are on
more than 24 compilations, among them cafe del mar, ambient
lounge, hugo boss complete cool and sounds for the magic island
ibiza and not to forget the successful audiopharm compilations
brazilectro and asia lounge.
of course, moodoramas' magic is also heard abroad, so they have
been praised to the sky by the french music press, in america the
second album was on the first places of the college radio dance
charts and increased in the top 200 of the radio charts (here all
titles of all american stations are listed).
parallel to moodorama the band leads a club áin regensburg and is
on tour as a dj-team in demand. previous stations have been for
example unique (dⁿsseldorf), atomic cafe (mⁿnchen), lasal
(barcelona), king kamehameha club (frankfurt), roxy (istanbul) and
die "marlboro motel club"-tour.
currently the moodorama sound pool consists of the thinking and
leading head which are martin sennebogen (sequenzer and
turntables), musician kerstin huber, sound designer bernhard frank
and keyboarder and musician marco k÷stler.
in contrast to a lot of other artists or dj productions producing
pure studio albums the moodorama sound ápool is also to be
listened with a band álively.
the moodian sound is visually supported by a multi media artist
who gives the stage presence a mysterious and wonderful atmosphere
by using colour effects and light animation.
finally there is the moodorama dj team within the sound pool which
are mario malzer and ámartin sennebogen who play the special
sounds in the clubs which always reflects moodorama.
there remain some current questions which had been answered by
martin sennebogen in a little chat.
why is the new album's name "listen"?
""listen" is an invitation to listen. we do not want a
á"functional music" but music to be listened to."
does there exist a concept for the album?
"our concept is always capturing atmospheres, to transfer them
musically and to give it back to the listeners. if there exists a
concept for the album than it is combining the songs as a history.
than we worked out the chapter (songs). the history was the result
- but everybody must be told this history of his own."
did you play the instruments on your own?
"principally we play the instruments by ourselves. of course, we
do use samples which we choose fitting to the songs. sometimes we
begin with a sample as it expresses a certain atmosphere. if a
song demands an instrument or sound we will search until we will
have found the one we looked for: be it a guitar solo or the a
bubbling coffee maker..
all musician have classical education ( singing and at least one
instrument ). moreover, as everybody has belonged to several bands
before, they all have a long lasting stage experience."
have other musicians played a part in the recordings?
"yes, diverse, for example helmut kagerer, a friend and
international well known jazz guitarist."
do you think it is important that real musicians play your music?
"we are all real musicians"
how important is electronic, the computer for your music?
"who wants to make modern music today ámust be able to manage
technics and to use it's creative possibilities but not be
dominated by technics. electronic respectively a computer must be
seen as means to an end. you cannot work without electronic but it
must also be seen as an instrument like a trumpet."
who are the vocals?
"kerstin huber, she has been singing for moodorama for a long
time, marco k÷stler was in the georg ratzinger band before."
your music swings in the lounge-chill-brazil-context. á
"we do not want to be committed to a special style and do not know
a kind of competitive thinking to so named competitors."
why should people buy your album, listen to your music?
"who is still interested in being told histories by music should
"listen" to this album.
what do you think about the current status of the
electronic/house-nu jazz-scene?
"for us future means to learn from the old but to use all new
opportunities".
