shur-i-kan returns, having dropped what many djÆs and reviewers
considered to be one of the albums of the year, and if you checked
out æadvanceÆ then youÆll know tom szirtesÆ style û lush norwegian
fjords, fat beats and deepness aplenty.
first up is æmusicÆ, a mid-tempo jazz-funk-hip hop classic with
just a hint of 80Æs tinged disco. jamie odell takes a break from
his forthcoming jimpster lp and dons his audiomontage cap to
rework æmusicÆ into a minimal, deep house shuffler, originally
meant as just a bonus beats drum groove, which soon developed into
a complete track.
on the flipside youÆll find æinfiniteÆ, a futuristic nine-minute
journey into soundà.stereophonic sound, through broken funk and
hip-house. please wear safety glasses at all times.
"well, if it's a jazz and funk combo you fancy to quash your
appetite for some quality dance music, then look no further than
this baad ass release. tom szirtes treats 'music' with jazz gloves
on his mix. the beats are straight ahead mid-tempo snare bashing
efforts until a little bridge appears where they scatter behind
the kick drum like a startled flock of birds. the keys come in
many textures and really bring this peice of work to life,
wonderful bright, crisp production. toward the final funky furlong
percussion with a nice flange effect attached come to the fore,
which leads us up to a real meandering jazzy keys solo. jamie
odell is currently very busy working on an album but here he dons
the audiomontage hat for a deep, deep excursion into the depths of
house that only a funky little muthafucker like him could plunge
to. sparkling keys and driving bass mingle with chunky diggin'
keys that sound as though they came from the wrong side of town,
they are mean. 'infinite' is future jazz happiness and house
twixed as the beats change like a chameleon changes colour. phat
keys plump this right up all over."
