Release Notes:
The success story for young Norwegian/ Bulgarian Mikhael Paskalev started with
the release of his first single ever, the platinum selling and super catchy ôI
Spy", which became a smash hit in Norway after winning a national award for Best
Unsigned Act in 2012.
The remarkable Tom Cruise-homage video made waves in the music underground from
Norway via Huffington Post to Hype Machine, and has had over 1 million views on
Youtube and Vimeo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nksTXmu1UAg
The follow up single, ôJive Babe", brought Paskalev, director Jack Witheley and
cool, sexy actress Elena Arginos to his grandparents stomping grounds in
Bulgaria to find the right atmosphere. The result is a Tarantino meets Twin
Peaks meets colorful gipsylife video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZiIMmjaf54
Mikhael Paskalev makes pop music with a twist and roots in indie and alternative
country rock, inspired by names such as Paul Simon, The Shins, Edward Sharpe,
The Mamas and the Papas and The Everly Brothers. His songs are recognized by the
instrumentation, unusual structures and strong melodies. At times they are
shamelessly catchy, but never leave the lovely and raw soundscape in which he
and producer wonderkid Joe Wills choses to operate.
Paskalev has performed at most of the major Norwegian music festivals, and
offers a dynamic live set, varying from songs accompanied by his nylon-strung
guitar only, to a six-piece band with the occasional trumpet and a circus of
energy.
All of this before the release of his debut album. In February 2013, the highly
anticipated debut album ôWhat┤s Life Without Losers", finally was released, and
again to much praise from the reviewers.
One of Norway┤s leading newspapers Dagbladet in their review: "An album filled
with warmth, euphoria and most of all, an honest and great songwriter."
