After making some serious noise with their excellent debut single
"Going Out" which was praised by both deep house and and nu-jazz
jocks, Oslo based live funk house duo, Antenna, prove that they are
in it to win it with their superb sophomore single "Round About
Midnight". The title track is a massive uncut 70's flavored future
funk anthem that serves due notice that these brothers got the skills
to pay the bills. Employing a live undulating baseline, firing
percussion, soaring salsoul-esque strings, and towering Starsky and
Hutch style wah wah guitars, Antenna turn out an orchestral
Philadelphia International inspired neo disco funk masterpiece that
would make senors' Gamble and Huff proud. On the BI track "C'mon
Kompis" Antenna get down and dirty, injecting the original uncut funk
version with layer after layer of dubbed out strings, pads, synth
washes, and reverberations to transform it into an Arthur Russell
inspired dancing in outer space funk odyssey guaranteed to break you
down and get you into the groove. Antenna leave us with "It's Easy
Living" a pimped out, afrodelic, rump shaking, roller skating, strobe
light honey deelightful disco groove complete with bell bottom flair
and a Gil Scott inspired "See that Black boy over there running
scared" vibe. At a time when house music is mired in a phase of
uninspired mediocrity that is passed off, repackaged and sold to the
masses as"Progressive" Antenna step on the scene and inject it with a
much needed dose of passion, soulful and skilled musicianship.
