It would seem that the previous group was unaware that the first
five tracks were performed by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince,
and were credited that way as seen on the original albums where
the songs were first available. Will Smith did not record as a solo
artist while on Jive Records during the late '80s, and into the 1990s, as
Jeff Townes and Will Smith performed together as a duo under the moniker of
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. It wasn't until 1997 that Will Smith began to
record as a solo artist under a new recording contract with Columbia Records.
