Tone Control Music proudly introduces thatmanmonkz 2nd EP, Overproof. This follow up
to debut solo EP, The Man continues 'monkz exploration into Detroit, disco, and soul
influenced deep house. Lead track, Overproof takes mid-tempo, modern boogie from soul
into darker territories, while Right On gives a nod to Detroit old and new, before
closing out in percussive Yoruba style with long time collaborator, Pete Simpson.
Throughout this EP thatmanmonkz utilises his MPC, Rhodes, Bass Guitar and a multitude
of synths to raw, rocking effect. Martin "Atjazz" Iveson lends his hear on mastering
duties to complete another solid EP in the series.
Scott 'thatmanmonkz' Moncrieff is a much-renowned DJ who has shared the decks with
heavyweights such as Carl Craig, Grandmaster Flash, Phil Asher, and I.G.Culture
amongst many others. Sharing a flat with Arctic Monkeys and M.I.A producer Ross Orton
led to a crash course in production techniques and analogue synths, which inspired
him to join forces with Toddla T (Radio 1) to form Small Arms Fiya.
Small Arms Fiya created numerous releases and remixes over their 3 year
collaboration. Their debut EP with Pete Simpson, and follow up with Ayah Marar was
received with impressive acclaim from Benji B, Ross Allen, Waajeed and more. After a
hiatus which 'monkz used to experiment with new musical directions, soundtracking,
and production techniques, he has been busy producing, arranging, remixing and DJing
- headlining the infamous Kabal Warehouse Party, City Fly, Cargo, M.I.S, and other
events, numerous supports and residencies, and has recorded guest mixes for Rinse FM,
Deeper Shades of House, and RTE Pulse among others.
Since his debut solo release, 'The Man' EP on Tone Control Music, and 12" from his
'S&M' project, 'Monkz has already garnered some high profile attention, including
Radio One plays, and DJ support from Ashley Beadle, DJ Spinna, Rainer Truby, Deetron,
Jimpster and Laurent Garnier, to name but a few, as well as being named 'record of
the week' at Piccadilly Records. Along with this EP, 'Monkz continued solo work, 'Ex
P's' and 'S&M' projects, as well as production work for vocalists Dnae and Pete
Simpson, his Fiya Station studio is a busy place to be right now, though
opportunities to catch him in warehouse and basement parties are coming shortly....
