what is a breakbeat remix about ?
the fascination of breakbeat basically comes down to the formula
"drum and bass" û two driving forces and a catalyst for
innumerable moods. it describes the fundamental principle for a
musical genre which is both tradition-conscious and futuristic.
drum-n-bass has been practised consistently for years by the
dⁿsseldorf band phoneheads - philipp maiburg and michael
scheibenreiter. dj philipp maiburg enhanced the german drum-n-bass
scene for five years and 250 club evenings at the "wednesday
breaks" of the dⁿsseldorf "unique club" up until the summer of
2001. he quickly became one of the few ambassadors of the german
scene who were booked in britain. michael (nicknamed "scheibe" =
disc) scheibenreiter met philip while he was busy on the deck. an
enquiry about a current production got the phoneheads project off
to a start à now, after two studio albums, the phoneheads sound is
enhancing the drum-n-bass business with remixes too.
but ... letÆs not only talk about drum-n-bass!
whilst michael is starting with phoneheads dj gigs, philipp is
going on with his label "combination records", founded in the
spring of this year, developing drum-n-bass without tempo
restrictions.
they also co-operate with artists of other genres, this release
was one of those variations in their music style.
