Tattersall, the man behind the much
loved bespoke imprint Cotton Goods and
member of Remote Viewer, The Boats and
several other projects** Craig
Tattersall stokes 'The Wooden Laser'
into action on this archival session of
quiet, dusty ambient reel-to-reel
rustles as The Archivist. Aside from his
involvement with Hood, The Remote Viewer
and The Boats, Craig has made time over
the last eleven years to sketch these
twelve barely-there tape vignettes,
capturing for posterity the presence of
ghostly melodies shrouded in a rich
swirl of ferric interference. Operating
in a hazy zone somewhere behind the
shadows of Pole, William Basinski and
Wanda Group, these pieces make a virtue
of tape's infidelities and sensitivity
to sleight of hand, caressing warm bass
shapes and fragments of lingering
phrases which seem to flit in the half-
light like dust dancing brownian in a
shaft of dawn/twi-lit rays. It's
beautifully modest and understated
music, highly recommended to fans of
life's subtler joys.
