It seems months since Dark Globe were being touted
as one of the big things of 2004, and despite
MiamiÆs Winter Music ConferenceÆs (sketchy)
memories are starting to fade with the festival
season and Ibiza nearly upon us, ôBreak My Worldö
is still in everyoneÆs consciousness. Getting its
full release this month, its lost none of its
potency, and now arrives with a slew of quality
remixes courtesy of, amongst others, Wally Lopez.
ItÆs a haunting tune, with slowly falling strings
looping below the appropriately named Amanda
GhostÆs vocals, and itÆs a throwback to the more
atmospheric breakbeat of the late 90s that BT used
to churn out with apparent ease. In a sea of phat
beats and heavy breaks, itÆs beautifully
refreshing. Wally Lopez toughens things up,
slicing up the vocals, and adding keys, a deeper
bassline, and bongos to darken the feeling but
take away none of the melody. The standout is the
Flypast mix, taking the original into a haze of
electronica, and tougher beats.
