Another two fragments of harrowing beauty from Olafur Arnalds, this time finding
the Icelandic melancholy maestro tangling with more rhythmic material than he
might usually. Opener 'Endalaus II' is a brooding, low-end rattler that grows
into a crackling, lilting minimalist symphony in Arnalds' signature style and
could soundtrack any number of weepy indie movies. For our money though the flip
is even more gorgeous, taking the skeletal framework set out by Helios (dusty
drums, aching melodies) and building some of the most emotive piano lines we've
heard since Max Richter's 'The Blue Notebooks'.
