  "Alarming Silence"

On 16 August 1987, Northwest Airlines Flight 255
stalled as it lifted off from Detroit Metropolitan
Airport and crashed just beyond the runway, killing
156 people, including 2 on the ground.

A four-year-old girl was the only survivor. The
investigation showed that the pilots failed to
configure the aircraft's flaps and slats for takeoff.
