│║ For the uninitiated: a æcovered callÆ is an ║ │
│║ option strategy used on derivative (financial) ║ │
│║ markets. The reason why these Swedish five piece ║ │
│║ opted to operate under this name is simple: some ║ │
│║ of the band members also work in the tumultuous ║ │
│║ stock market! Maybe that also explains the ║ │
│║ somewhat unusual artwork and title for their ║ │
│║ debut album, ôMoney Never Sleepsö. ║ │
│║ Covered Call is the brainchild of drummer Ronny ║ │
│║ Svanstr÷mer, who founded the band in 2006. The ║ │
│║ first who joined him, was former Spearfish ║ │
│║ guitarist Ola Johansson, followed by guitarist ║ │
│║ Joel Carlsson and vocalist/bass player Johan ║ │
│║ Palmberg. The chemistry was there from the very ║ │
│║ beginning and in no time something like ten ║ │
│║ classic melodic hard rock songs were written. ║ │
│║ Soon after these initial writing sessions, ║ │
│║ Palmberg decided to pull back and Thomas Thulin ║ │
│║ took over the bass playing from him. In search ║ │
│║ of a new vocalist, the band was happy to enlist ║ │
│║ the services of Thomas Vikstr÷m, who doesnÆt ║ │
│║ need an introduction anymore. The last line-up ║ │
│║ change took place in the autumn of last year, ║ │
│║ when Ola Johansson was replaced by Morgan ║ │
│║ Rosenquist. Not much was needed to convince ║ │
│║ rising label Blistering Records to add them to ║ │
│║ their ever growing roster of bands. ║ │
│║ ôMoney Never Sleepsöwas recorded and mixed by ║ │
│║ Fredrik Nordstr÷m and Hendrik Udd, with ║ │
│║ production duties handled by the band members ║ │
│║ Svanstr÷mer and Carlsson. The result is a highly ║ │
│║ interesting album full of classic hard rock ║ │
│║ songs in the vein of all those 80s bands, but ║ │
│║ with a modern twist. Highlights include ôTilÆ ║ │
│║ The Endö, ôNever Againö, the piano ballad ║ │
│║ ôAnything You Wantö and the up-tempo title song ║ │
│║ ôMoney Never Sleepsö. LetÆs hope this gentlemen ║ │
│║ can make enough time to come up with a follow- ║ │
│║ up, hopefully again with Thomas Vikstr÷m, whoÆs ║ │
