────■ DESCRiPTiON ■────
In 2013 the Turner Prize is presented in Northern Ireland for the first time
in its history, as part of Derry/ Londonderry's City of Culture programme.
Actress Saorsie Ronan announces the winner. Lauren Laverne hosts the programme,
which also profiles each of the four shortlisted artists, whose work encompasses
live encounters, film, sculpture, drawing and painting.
Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is nominated for her paintings. Tino Sehgal is nominated
for his performance work in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in London last summer.
Laure Prouvost is nominated for film installations. And David Shrigley is best
known for drawings, but his Hayward Gallery exhibition last year introduced his
work as a sculptor.Founded in 1984 to celebrate new developments in contemporary
art, the Turner Prize is awarded each year to a British artist under 50 for an
outstanding exhibition or presentation of their work in the preceding 12 months.
Over recent decades the award has played a significant role in provoking debate
about visual art and promoting public interest in contemporary art.
