│║ 10 years of Epica were the right moment to ║ │
│║ celebrate. The band did this 10 years ║ │
│║ anniversary celebration by having a unique show ║ │
│║ in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven on March 23 this ║ │
│║ year. But of course the band didn't celebrate ║ │
│║ the alone. They invited also guests to the ║ │
│║ party. Floor Jansen joined the show as well as ║ │
│║ some of the former Epica members (during ║ │
│║ "Quietus") . And not to forget the fans. Almost ║ │
│║ 5.000 people wanted to be part of the event and ║ │
│║ created a perfect environment for such a show. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ In total the band played three hours and had 26 ║ │
│║ songs on the setlist (including the intro and ║ │
│║ the outro). That means that all fans of the band ║ │
│║ got and get a lot of Epica during the show and ║ │
│║ by listening to the live CD/DVD. The sound of ║ │
│║ the album is fantastic. I think that it captured ║ │
│║ the atmosphere of the show in an excellent way. ║ │
│║ It is powerful and got a good mix, which is even ║ │
│║ more to appreciate since I think that the ║ │
│║ Klokgebouw as location doesn't support a perfect ║ │
│║ sound that much. So, my compliments to the ║ │
│║ production. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Since the band played also together with an ║ │
│║ orchestra, the songs got even a slightly new ║ │
│║ touch, by still being 100% Epica. Talking about ║ │
│║ the songs. The setlist of course included the ║ │
│║ bands classic tracks like "Cry for the moon" and ║ │
│║ "Sensorium". Next to this also songs like ║ │
│║ "Stabat mater dolorosa" are standing out. Simone ║ │
│║ sings that song together with Floor as a duett ║ │
│║ and they do it just perfect. The song reflects ║ │
│║ what both can do with their voices. With ║ │
│║ "Retrospect" the album also contains a track ║ │
│║ which the band especially played for this show ║ │
│║ and it reflects all what Epica stand for. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ I just can repeat myself in saying that ║ │
│║ "Retrospect" became a fantastic live album which ║ │
│║ documents an extrordinary evening in Eindhoven. ║ │
│║ I haven't seen the DVD so far, but just ║ │
│║ listening to the CD I could imagine that the ║ │
│║ visual documenation is even stronger. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ I can recommend this album to all fans of the ║ │
│║ band and everybody who enjoys symphonic metal. ║ │
│║ Well done Epica and I'm looking forward to the ║ │
│║ coming 10 years. ║ │
