| | Where's the light-switch? Sod it. Who | |
| | cares.... Icarus take away your torch and | |
| | delve you into the dark regions of their drum | |
| | 'n' bass psyche KAMIKAZE style. The ICARUS | |
| | cousin duo Ollie Brown and Sam Britton draw | |
| | their penchant to moody melodies and abstract | |
| | sound construction from a shared love of | |
| | mathematics, architecture and industrial | |
| | development sites. Strange perhaps, but when | |
| | you take into consideration their musical | |
| | influences of which Frank Zappa, Blue Note | |
| | and Miss Ornette Coleman top the list you | |
| | soon realise you're in uncharted territory | |
| | with these two. ICARUS twist the drum 'n' | |
| | bass normality with an onslaught of | |
| | atmospherics that, if parallels must be | |
| | drawn, fall somewhere between The Aphex Twin | |
| | and Rupert Photek. However, 'Kamikaze', their | |
| | debut album, takes musical style far beyond | |
| | the usual drum 'n' bass parameters, their | |
| | skill in soundtrack composition an obvious | |
| | influence. The haunting double-bass cityscape | |
| | 'Moth', the melodic but teasing 'Agua Para | |
| | Mis Abuelos' and the crashing hypnotic | |
| | 'Gordon Detail' merge to add yet another | |
| | dimension to the Recordings of Substance | |
| | label. | |
