(Three Keys), one of the NationÆs premiere independent
record labels, proudly announces the pending release of R&B
diva Alyson WilliamsÆ latest album, ItÆs About Time. The
album will be released nationally on April 20.
Williams is best remembered for being the first R&B artist
signed to Russell SimmonsÆ Def Jam label in the early 1990s.
Her critically acclaimed album, Raw, brought much success
with the hit single, ôJust Call My Nameö. Raw was certified
gold in the U.K. and spent a phenomenal 67 weeks on the
Billboard charts in the months following its release.
Many artists have trouble breaking back into their niche,
but as a seasoned entertainer, Williams knows that her
reemergence is a blessing. ôProfessionally [IÆm most proud
of my ability to embrace longevity,ö said Williams. ôTo have
a new record on the mainstream at this point in my career is
a major coup.ö
ItÆs About Time is a collection of songs that tell a love
story. A mix of R&B and jazz, the album offers something for
everyone and the lyrics are universal. Alyson, who co-wrote
five of the songs, takes her listeners down the manic path
of a passionate relationship. She opens with boy-meets-girl,
moves on to the moment the wedding is called off and
finishes by chronicling the struggle to make it from
day-to-day in the wake of a breakup. After waiting nearly a
decade, her fans have been craving more Alyson and, with
this release, she certainly doesnÆt disappoint.
The album features a few duets with R&B vocalist Tony Terry,
best known for his hit singles, ôWhen IÆm With Youö and
ôEverlasting Loveö, and background vocal support from
neo-soul singer Grenique. Producers and writers featured on
the album include Marcus Johnson, Nate Smith (Michael
Jackson, Supafriendz, The Artistics), Colin Morrison (Chante
Moore, The Temptations), Eric ô88 Fingazö Parham (YahZarah),
John Stoddard (Kirk Whalum, Dave Koz, Yolanda Adams) and
Gerald McCauley (George Benson, Bobby Lyle).
In recent years, Williams has had a successful acting career
and has been featured in several on and off-Broadway
musicals. During her hiatus from recording as a solo artist,
Williams teamed creatively with Marcus Johnson, Founder and
CEO of Three Keys, on three of his contemporary/smooth jazz
albums. Their collaboration on ôMorning Lightö, a single on
JohnsonÆs album, Inter Alia, got major play on smooth jazz
radio stations nationwide.
