│║ 'John Petrucci' is probably one of the most ║ │
│║ famous guitar players in the modern era of ║ │
│║ metal. Petrucci picked up the guitar when he was ║ │
│║ 12, and never let it go since then. He formed ║ │
│║ the band Majesty when he was 18 with some of his ║ │
│║ fellows from Berklee College of Music, a band ║ │
│║ which later became one of the most popular metal ║ │
│║ bands in the global world. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ 'Suspended Animation' came out when Peturcci was ║ │
│║ already 38 years old and established himself as ║ │
│║ one of the most successful guitar players and ║ │
│║ songwriters in 'Dream Theater', which is a band ║ │
│║ that will not be forgotten in the history of ║ │
│║ metal and progressive music. These of you who ║ │
│║ already familiar with the music of Dream Theater ║ │
│║ won't be surprised too much of this album. Many ║ │
│║ of the tracks here could be easily instrumental ║ │
│║ tracks in one of Dream Theater albums if some of ║ │
│║ the guitar solos would be played by keyboards. ║ │
│║ However, it doesn't mean that this is a bad ║ │
│║ album, because it's certainly not. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The mixing is very professional. The guitars ║ │
│║ have a thick edge and a bright distortion that ║ │
│║ fits both the heavy rhythm riffs and the fluid ║ │
│║ guitar leads. The drum work is very precise with ║ │
│║ many little interludes and an overall dynamic ║ │
│║ spirit that does justice with the guitar craft ║ │
│║ very well. 'Glasgow Kiss' is probably the most ║ │
│║ melodic and lesser technique emphasized song in ║ │
│║ this album. It has a catchy Scottish theme that ║ │
│║ repeat itself in different variations and some ║ │
│║ superb melodic guitar leads in a nice ║ │
│║ progressive structure. 'Damage Control' is a ║ │
│║ heavy track with buzzing riffs and fast paced ║ │
│║ solos that will keep you interested for the ║ │
│║ whole 9 minutes length of this track. 'Jaws Of ║ │
│║ Life' sound like it could have been placed in ║ │
│║ DT''s Train Of Thought album with no problems. ║ │
│║ Very heavy riffage and screaming guitars to be ║ │
│║ found here alongside some rich melodic leads. ║ │
│║ Outstanding opener to say the least. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ 'Suspended Animation' is a decent album that ║ │
│║ exhibits Petrucci composing skills and technique ║ │
│║ in a very respectable manner. This is a ║ │
│║ definitely recommended album for fans of ║ │
│║ instrumental music, shredding albums or the ║ │
│║ casual Dream Theater's fans. Petrucci showcase a ║ │
│║ lot of his shredding abilities in this album, ║ │
│║ but he doesn't forget to do it in the form of ║ │
│║ sophisticated progressive compositions, and ║ │
│║ that's what's good about this album. ║ │
