        | | Peshay releases two oldskool tunes, that very | |

        | | very much lead into his tunes he released | |

        | | Reading based record shop of the same name | |

        | | (owned by Basement Phil), exploded onto the | |

        | | hardcore scene with its own very distinct | |

        | | style back in 1992. Using similar hardcore | |

        | | breaks and catchy drop-outs as were popular | |

        | | at the time, early Basement releases were | |

        | | also well known for their more intelligent | |

        | | edge than a lot of other stuff at the time. | |

        | | It can be heard in early releases such as | |

        | | Flying, and We Told You, where regular | |

        | | hardcore production is mixed with more | |

        | | melodic Detroit style sounds and percussion, | |

        | | in a way that went down well with the more | |

        | | underground DJs at the time, such as L.T.J. | |

        | | Bukem. | |

        | | In 1993 as the dark side erupted onto the | |

        | | hardcore scene, the label really came into | |

        | | its own. Jack Smooth, who engineered all 15 | |

        | | initial releases on the label among others, | |

        | | Wax Doctor, Alex Reece, Top Buzz, and Phil | |

        | | himself, steadily began to craft the famous | |

        | | jungle tekno sound during this era, for which | |

        | | Basement is still most well known for of all | |

        | | hardcore labels. More advanced and polished | |

        | | than anything the earlier hardcore scene had | |

        | | come up with, yet still relying on high speed | |

        | | hip hop style breaks and 4-beat action, | |

        | | Basement's sound was in a league of its very | |

        | | own, and no one could touch it. | |

        | | As hardcore eventually evolved and split, | |

        | | Basement then progressed into producing some | |

        | | of the best melodic intelligent drum 'n' bass | |

        | | Sy to Slipmatt seemed to find something | |

        | | special in Basement's releases over the | |

        | | years, and conveyed that through their DJ | |
