Born in the Black Sea port of Odessa as the Soviet Union began to enter its
final tumultuous epoch, Ukrainian Guk Kirill has risen rapidly to prominence
under his Following Light production pseudonym. Following in the footsteps
of fellow countrymen, Tvardovsky and Dapple Apple, Particles is delighted to
announce the return of Following Light with his "Delightful" new EP. From a
background steeped in the creative arts, Kirill's talent in fine art was
recognised as he graduated from art school before going on to begin his
"experimentations" in electronic music forms. As a result of these
experimentations, Kirill has not looked back. Since the beginning of 2012,
the Following Light name has graced over 30 labels in an eighteen-month
whirlwind of creative productivity. With work signed to Balkan Connection,
Stellar Fountain and Quadrature, over 100 Beatport production credits have
been earned supported by the ilk of Derek Howell, East Cafe and Erich Von
Kollar. Furthermore, launching the Unfeigned Records imprint alongside
Andrey Subbotin has afforded Kirill the opportunity to release a substantial
body of new material. Among the century of credits, the "Calm" EP for
Particles in Spring 2013 marked a high point on the Following Light
portfolio with its powerful triptych proving an impressive debut. An
evolution of his earlier work, Following Light now provides Particles with a
brand new two-track EP. The mischievously named title-track provides a
wonderful dark and brooding atmosphere as "Delightful" wends along a path of
deep, resonant kick drum, stylish percussive rhythms and granular analogue
bass. As the track evolves, a series of haunting pads develop to coincide
with intermittent effects replete with edgy menace. A thick, paranoid
atmosphere pervades as Following Light sprinkles his magic over a work of
consummate poise and artistry. Partner track "Recovery", maintains the same
pulsating menace of its predecessor as intricate rhythms play out against a
melancholy chord progression and twinkling arpeggios reminiscent of early
Jean Michel Jarre. Simultaneously a hypnotic acid-tinged lead line emerges
to sit effortlessly above periodic key changes to create a sound that cuts
through like a laser-guided missile. A "Delightful" response to a "Calm"
debut has left Following Light in impressive form as he continues the path
through "Recovery". Directed by Jay Epoch AandR by Marina Gerardi Mastered
