│║ With the disbandment of PANTERA approximately a ║ │
│║ decade ago, various supergroups, side projects ║ │
│║ and fresh musical endeavours have been sought by ║ │
│║ the æCowboys From HellÆ which include DOWN, ║ │
│║ HELLYEAH and more recently KILL DEVIL HILL which ║ │
│║ features bassist Rex Brown. Vinny Appice (former ║ │
│║ BLACK SABBATH and more) who birthed the band to ║ │
│║ deliver some hard hitting heavy metal. ║ │
│║ The band has produced a contemporary style of ║ │
│║ metal, which pays homage to the genreÆs roots ║ │
│║ from decades ago. After releasing their self- ║ │
│║ titled album in 2012, KILL DEVIL HILL has just ║ │
│║ released their sophomore record æRevolution ║ │
│║ RiseÆ.s ║ │
│║ æNo Way OutÆ explodes with vocalist Dewey Bragg ║ │
│║ letting out a welcoming roar as he slips into a ║ │
│║ groovy verse with BrownÆs steady bassline, ║ │
│║ AppiceÆs technical percussion and Mark ZavonÆs ║ │
│║ thrashy riffs. The track reflects obvious ║ │
│║ influences from the musiciansÆ portfolios. ║ │
│║ Appice counts down with his sticks to direct ║ │
│║ æCrown of ThornsÆ, a groovy power ballad which ║ │
│║ emphasises each instrument to its core. Bragg ║ │
│║ demonstrates a vocal range reminiscent of bands ║ │
│║ like TESTAMENT, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and co- ║ │
│║ incidentally HELLYEAH. This track features some ║ │
│║ sweet guitar solos, and a diverse pace. ║ │
│║ æLong Way From HomeÆ is a display of metal ║ │
│║ romance as everything slows down with cymbals ║ │
│║ and bass elongated joining BraggÆs beautifully ║ │
│║ held key. This song reflects BraggÆs pure clean ║ │
│║ vocal ability and how well suited he is for a ║ │
│║ traditional groove metal band like KILL DEVIL ║ │
│║ HILL. ║ │
│║ The atmosphere becomes eerie and the suspense ║ │
│║ builds in æWhere Angels Dare to RoamÆ after ║ │
│║ crossing the mid-way point of æRevolution RiseÆ ║ │
│║ but after forty seconds; Zavon breaks into a ║ │
│║ distorted riff which is shortly followed by ║ │
│║ drums and bass. BraggÆs gruff yet melodious tone ║ │
│║ returns in perfect sync with the ║ │
│║ instrumentation. It is tracks like these that ║ │
│║ are an epiphany for how aesthetically destined ║ │
│║ these musicians were to play together in one ║ │
│║ band. ║ │
│║ Whilst acknowledging old-school bands who fitted ║ │
│║ into groove and thrash sub-genres of metal, and ║ │
│║ being aware of the changing trends in these ║ │
│║ areas; it is easy to realise how well KILL DEVIL ║ │
│║ HILL fuse the past and present together. They do ║ │
│║ this in a way which would gain the attention ║ │
│║ from those who are too young to understand the ║ │
│║ history of these musical figures as well as ║ │
│║ those that sweat it and grew up with it. ║ │
│║ The truth is that many listeners may be those ║ │
│║ who loved PANTERA, BLACK SABBATH and HEAVEN AND ║ │
│║ HELL and are curious to see where Appice and ║ │
│║ Brown are today. This album will not only ║ │
│║ satisfy that hunger, but blow those away on the ║ │
│║ calibre of metal being bred. ║ │
