What must it have been like when Florida's Vortex Recordings heach
honcho and UK's Fluid Recordings mastermind were connecting their
creative madness to create "Bits"? You'll imagine the tremendous
moments, erupting with creativity and enriching many senses like few
artists ever do, especially when 3 well-established producers team
up to make something of irresistible dance floor appeal. The outcome is
a nice progressive pulse of bass and beats that might be one of the best
tunes of the year. "Bits" is nothing short of sheer beauty and it has
that interesting deep heavy beat pattern (this is what comes to my mind
when I first listened to it) that DJs are talking about. To spice things
up a bit, the breakdown has intense metallic rhythm and cool vocoder-
like effects in the well known Evolution style. It simply is a smooth,
tight production combining all the right elements that you look for in
quality progressive house. Vortex is showing the strength with this
release that's heading straight to #1 in 3 Beat Progressive Chart (22
November 2001). Think of this label as one without forgetting the main
ingredient of the Vortex spirit which is basically bringing you good
quality grooves. While "Bits" sees the blend of Evolution trademark of
lush soundscapes and funky rhythms and Boyd's peak-time feels, the flip
side brings you a different slice of instrumental progressive action
by Boyd himself. "Bits" takes the honor as the most emphatic of the
two cuts in this EP. This record is an absolute must-have.
