  █

The idea was always to select the dopest cuts from the
contemporary funk, soul, hip-hop, reggae and we've done
       it again for you.

Kicking things off for volume 2 is transatlantic
production duo Herma Puma's nifty hip-hop/ funk splice
of the Jungle Brothers' Jimbrowski and funk legends The
Peacemaker's Don't Push Your Luck. This is swiftly
followed by Mr Benn's boom-skankin rework of Joe
Driscoll's paean to the analogue mixtape Mixtape Champs
and then Mr Benn pick up the reggae-influenced baton
with their mighty ghetto funk rework of Bob's Mr Brown
complete with the vocal stylings of Florida-based rasta
Bass Nacho. Battle-scratch master and b-boy breaks
producer Krash Slaughta drops the first of this album's
exclusives with his fresh tribute to the four skills -
Elements and is followed by TotalCult who delivers the
second in the form of a fat-ass slice of exclusive hip-
hop fuelled party breaks - On Like Donkey Kong. Next up
is DJ Moneyshot who comes good with the Sam & Dave
fuelled banger Holla 4 Help before handing over to
       æFrench RJD2' Roger Molls.

The first artist from Volume 1 to return, Molls this
time around supplies a classy little funky breaks
instrumental off his excellent The Man With Dusty
Fingers LP, Jazz Club. Nice. Barcelona's The Excitements
produced one of the monkey's favourite LPs of 2011 and
here is the massive club-friendly Won't You Let Me Know
demonstrating the devastating soul power of singer Koko
Jean Davis - stand aside Ms Jones. Two other acts
returning for a second crack of the funky whip are
Australians Deep Street Soul with a massively underrated
funky soul cut Hold On Me off their recent LP Look Out,
Watch Out and heavy Texan funk outfit T Bird & The
Breaks with The Clap Hands Song - their chunky take on
an old Shirley Ellis soul cut from their latest LP Never
Get Out Of This Funk Alive.

Badboe & Prosper provide a neat segue back into sample-
based beats and show why they're highly respected on the
ghetto funk scene with the funk and hip-hop sampling
Freak Hop. Then we've got a brace of hip-hop bangers -
Bristol-scene luminary Mr Fantastic feat. J. Todd teams
up with J. Todd of Def Harmonic to deliver the huge
Meters-sampling All The Critics and Bay Area legends
Foreign Legion provide the biggest party cut off last
year's Night Moves LP - Party Over Here . Swiss beat-
scientist PulpFusion delivers a monstrous slice of
organ-led funky breaks in the form of Monkeyboxing On A
Hammond that you won't find anywhere else until later
this year and Renegades Of Jazz does what he does best
with Whipped Up's energetic b-boy breaks.

Finally it's time to round things up with a chilled-
but-massive hip-hop closer from The Funk League - the
alternative version of debut album track Boogie Down
Bombers featuring none other than - wait for it -
Diamond D of the DITC crew and Sadat X of Brand Nubian.
       Boom.

       Enjoy!
