Millie Jackson's first taste of singing in front of an audience
occurred one night at the famed nightclub Smalls Paradise. Sitting
in the audience with friends, Jackson heckled the lady onstage and,
when dared to do better, she stepped up to belt Ben E. King's "Don't
Play It No More." Jackson was hired for another gig within two
weeks, but didn't get paid. A gentleman by the name of Tony Rice
took her to a venue in Hoboken, NJ, a couple of weeks later and then
on to Brooklyn, NY, to perform for a nominal fee.
Jackson is much more than an entertainment legend. The shapely,
charismatic and multi-talented entertainer is without a doubt, a
music industry icon whose oft criticized career paved the way for
many of today's forward female recording artists and entertainers.
Not only has her lengthy career attracted fans from all walks of
life along the way; it's rumored that Bette Midler and Roseanne took
pages from Jackson's high voltage explicit approach to sex, to
enrich their respective careers..
"For Men Only" is one of Millie's best, Jackson gives fans tough
raps, raunchiness, and scathing dialogue that threads the songs
together. Millie's love for country ballads shows on "I Wish That I
Could Hurt That Way Again". The appeal heightens on deep soul
