│║ Musical and personal differences with the other ║ │
│║ members of Mercyful Fate caused Hank ShermanÆs ║ │
│║ departure from the black metal band halfway the ║ │
│║ 80s. Although he used the last part of the ║ │
│║ bandÆs name as the moniker for his new band, the ║ │
│║ music he had in mind would be something ║ │
│║ completely different. He recruited ex-Maxim ║ │
│║ vocalist Jeff æLoxÆ Limbo, bass/keyboards player ║ │
│║ Pete Steiner and drummer Bob Lance and within a ║ │
│║ period of only three weeks time they had a ║ │
│║ record deal with EMI in their pockets. FateÆs ║ │
│║ eponymous debut album, released in 1986, already ║ │
│║ showed the great potential of the band, but itÆs ║ │
│║ the follow-up ôA Matter Of Attitudeö (1987) ║ │
│║ which really showed what this Danish band was ║ │
│║ capable of. The songs on that album could be ║ │
│║ easily compared with those from Shy or Treat, ║ │
│║ which were really huge acts at the time. ║ │
│║ Unfortunately Hank Sherman left the band after ║ │
│║ that release and was replaced by a new ║ │
│║ guitarist, listening to the name of Mysterious ║ │
│║ Mr. Moth. Another two albums followed (ôCruisinÆ ║ │
│║ For A BruisinÆö and ôScratchÆn Sniffö), but none ║ │
│║ of them was as good as the second one. ║ │
│║ ItÆs generally agreed that ôA Matter Of ║ │
│║ Attitudeö was FateÆs highlight. Tracks like ║ │
│║ ôHard As A Rockö, ô(I CanÆt Stand) Losing Youö, ║ │
│║ ôHunterö, ôGet Up And Goö and ôLimbo A Go Goö ║ │
│║ have stood the test of time with ease and still ║ │
│║ sound extremely fresh after all these years. If ║ │
│║ you are well disposed towards Scandinavian ║ │
│║ melodic hard rock, then this is a re-issue I can ║ │
│║ really recommend. Remastered and with the ║ │
│║ addition of two unreleased bonus tracks ║ │
│║ (ôHardcore Romanceö and te beautiful ballad ║ │
│║ ôMemories Of Youö), itÆs another fine re-issue ║ │
│║ in the MTM Classix series. And if you canÆt get ║ │
│║ enough of it, this re-issue is accompanied by a ║ │
│║ live show later this month at Deep Impact in ║ │
│║ Munich where Fate will play along other MTM acts ║ │
│║ such as Dare and TNT. The beginning of a new ║ │
│║ chapter? WeÆll see. ║ │
