│║ After Hank Sherman (yes, he of MERCYFUL FATE ║ │
│║ fame) parted ways with Hair Metal act FATE ║ │
│║ following the release of the bandÆs sophomore ║ │
│║ effort, ôA Matter Of Attitudeö, in 1986, the ║ │
│║ remaining band members faced a difficult ║ │
│║ decision. Should they forge on without their ║ │
│║ beloved (not to mention, famous) guitarist? Why, ║ │
│║ naturally, of course, they did. Amazingly, the ║ │
│║ result, 1988Æs ôCruisinÆ For A BruisinÆö, was ║ │
│║ the catchiest and most successful album of the ║ │
│║ bandÆs career, which is no small feat ║ │
│║ considering the strength of the Sherman-era ║ │
│║ material. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Like its predecessors, ôCruisinÆ For A BruisinÆ ║ │
│║ ö is straight-up catchy Pop-Metal ala VAN HALEN ║ │
│║ or M╓TLEY CR▄E. However, the hooks are catchier, ║ │
│║ the harmonies even slicker, and the melodies ║ │
│║ just out of this world. Even though the band ║ │
│║ admitted that this album was ôjust for funö, it ║ │
│║ totally and completely worked for them. ║ │
│║ Ridiculous, sex-fuelled lyrics abound on ║ │
│║ ôCruisinÆ For A BruisinÆö, but one can look past ║ │
│║ them easily when one considers how these lines ║ │
│║ are sung: majestically. Jeff Limbo is definitely ║ │
│║ one of the eraÆs best and most underrated ║ │
│║ singers of the era: just listen to how he makes ║ │
│║ the choruses of songs like hit single ôLoversö ║ │
│║ (remember the video?) and ôDiamond In The Roughö ║ │
│║ his own. ôDiamond In The Roughö, a very edgy ║ │
│║ song in instrumentation if not in lyrical ║ │
│║ content (ôI want women to the left of me and ║ │
│║ women to the right!ö Limbo shrieks in the ║ │
│║ prechorus), is an absolute hook-fest. Each part ║ │
│║ of the song, be it verse, prechorus, chorus, or ║ │
│║ anything else, is uniquely catchy in its own ║ │
│║ special way. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ New guitarist Mr. Moth does a more than adequate ║ │
│║ job of filling ShermanÆs shoes, as he proves ║ │
│║ heÆs got chops to burn. The rest of the band ║ │
│║ also performs well on the album. Limbo, of ║ │
│║ course, is in a league of his own. ║ │
│║ ôCruisinÆ For A BruisinÆö features FATE at their ║ │
│║ lowest level of seriousnessàand at their highest ║ │
│║ level of musical output. This is, beyond a ║ │
│║ doubt, the definitive FATE album. Even though ║ │
│║ MTM Music has also reissued the bandÆs 1984 ║ │
│║ debut, get this one instead; it even features a ║ │
│║ re-recording of the best track from the debut, ║ │
│║ ôLove On The Rox.ö This oneÆs a must-have for ║ │
│║ Hair Metal fans! ║ │
