Ruins, ancient and forgotten of some once puissant race contort a skyline
peppered with constellations out of synchronicity with our own. So,
somewhat, begins the press release and one cannot be too askew from it for
it not to be the partial truth. In a symphony of noise, Metaconqueror
populates its world with low-end rumbles and supurating cachinnations
creating a bleak ambience, or as some would coin death-industrialism. An
underlying occult lineage embroiders the tracks much as in the mythos of
LovecraftÆs and Divers Hands colleaguesÆ stories of primordial gods yet
here there is no underlying cosmology more ancient than the hermetic
Luciferian one erected in æBanishment of the UnforsakenÆ.
æPestilenceÆ breeds a foraging horde of verminous supplicants that drag
filth of slow genocide through towers and buildings that would eventually
become ruinous. Angular and fragmental voiced samples announce the dour
and blasted soundscape of æMy Name is Legion and I am ManyÆ, the very land
an icon of the triumph of calculated homicide. Mechanical distortion
vibrates through the lull of landscape of æThe BetrayerÆ. Echoic drums
lead the march of æDirge of the CrucifiedÆ, the track busy with nesting
rasps and imitations of horn whipped across the flayed bodies of the many.
Distant hymns lead rites of procession before the two-step rhythm of noise
joins with somber harmony in æOrder of the Golden DawnÆ. Gargling
distorted feedback bristles and squeals above the clouds of ritual
providing one of the strongest of power electronic tracks on the album,
not to mention one of the most memorable. æTemple of the Morning StarÆ,
the fane of the Christian fallen angel of legend is, as one would expect,
a desolate place. Keening pads brush empty alcoves and the shadowy throats
of hallways leading from the worshipping hall. Squalls of carrion birds
swarm the buttresses while serpents hiss as they undulate between pews
from where hushed whispers of the acolytes can be heard. Bellows pump and
flames elicit æForging the Gates of GehennaÆ, the unsteady rhythm of
air is followed by the steady clamour on iron by unseen hands, pools of
molten rock about the immense furnace and anvil spew viscous fumes that
occlude the depths of the smithÆs cave. æOf Empires BurningÆ, the subtlest
of tracks on the album, dimly spoken words can be caught between the pall
of smoke and distant fires of a terrorised land, barely audible staccato
of explosion abrade the landscape to ash. Comforting melody provides a
false sense of security in the last track æCerebusÆ before its stone upon
stone unsettling conclusion.
Package in a slim plastic case with artwork suggesting immemorial ruins
scraping dreary skies above a charred and wasted landscape the album
easily matches other artistsÆ replicated discs and work.
