On his latest effort, Chris Robinson and company ride straight for your soul,
guns blazing. Following up on their first two albums, Phosphorescent Harvest is
chock full of pleasant surprises. Chris makes his roots known, as he yet again
channels the sounds that inspired generations past, using his versatility to
bring them to new light. And before heÆs through, he will be sure it all comes
back into style.
Starting things off, the band brings a sound plucked straight out of Huey LewisÆ
psyche. Synthesizers on overdrive, space sounds firing left and right like
shooting stars across the track, things sure do get funky on ôShore Power.ö
Getting back to the Æ60s, ôAbout A Strangerö delves into the stylings of Jerry
Garcia, for a ballad about well, a stranger. ôClear Blue Skiesö takes a page
out of Bob DylanÆs work, for a taste of folk for good measure. ôBeggars Moonö is
one groovy beat, a steady balance of guitar, bass and keys. ôStarcrossed Lonely
Sailorö closes the set with a slow and steady ballad, a feel good tune about
hope and love. With so much talent comes so much influence, and an album of this
magnitude is born. A taste to satisfy all tongues can be found within.
