██ If you've never heard Kazuhito Yamashita's famous arrangement of ██
██ Pictures at An Exhibition it is very hard to find these days. ██
██ The Guitar Alive radio program played it on their last episode ██
██ so here's your chance to check it out. It's the episode entitled ██
██ "Pictures and Portraits, David Russell Interview" Guitar Alive ██
██ is at www(dot)guitaralive(dot)org. (not sure why this link is ██
██ boycotted. no ads and it is totally legit being part of a PBS ██
██ radio program. PBS is like america's take on BBC or CBC so the ██
██ broadcasts rights are all in place) ██

██ Whatever you think of it musically, and I kind of agree with ██
██ those who feel it is a kind of a bad idea from that angle, from ██
██ a pure guitar technique angle it is one of the most astounding ██
██ things ever. When it came out many believed it had been ██
██ overdubbed and spliced together until he pulled it off live a ██
██ few times. He developed many amazing new techniques including ██
██ retuning while playing and new multi-string tremolos. Many ██
██ people thought/hoped it would lead to some of those techniques ██
██ coming into wider use in new compositions and transcriptions. ██
██ That never really happened partly because they were so difficult ██
██ and partly because there was such a reaction against this and ██
██ other Yamashita transcriptions. While still hugely successful in ██
██ Japan, he has disappeared from US and European stores. ██
