 ██     Yansimalar (Turkish pronunciation: [jans?ma?a?], meaning             ██
 ██     "reflections"), or Yansimalar in the West, is a Turkish group        ██
 ██     that compose and play contemporary ethnic music, classified as       ██
 ██     world music in the Western world. It is sometimes listed as Grup     ██
 ██     Yansimalar (formal Turkish prefix for bands).                        ██

 ██     It was founded in 1990 by Birol Yayla (guitarist, tanbur lutist)     ██
 ██     and Aziz Senol Filiz (ney flutist). Their 2004 album Pervane         ██
 ██     ("Moth") was a noted world music album in Europe. They               ██
 ██     contributed the music for several Turkish movies, and are            ██
 ██     featured on the soundtrack of the film The Last Ottoman: Yandim      ██
 ██     Ali (2007).                                                          ██

 ██     Aziz Senol Filiz, ney player or neyzen as they say in Turkish,       ██
 ██     is as unassuming and humble in person as musically towering. He      ██
 ██     is the real maccoy - no last-minute convert, but heir to an          ██
 ██     interrupted tradition of poets, musicians and sufi masters - the     ██
 ██     three things being inextricabily linked. Hailing originally from     ██
 ██     the city of Tire, he established himself as one of the foremost      ██
 ██     ney player in Turkey, collaborating with tanbur player Birol         ██
 ██     Yayla in the Yansimalar duo, later expanded to small group and       ██
 ██     even symphonic proportions. This projects puts together several      ██
 ██     players of three instrumental types: ney, tanbur and percussion,     ██
 ██     excluding other types used in Turkish classical and sacred music     ██
 ██     (kemenτe, kanun) and allowing the listener to focus on the           ██
 ██     personal color and phrasing of the soloist. The most striking        ██
 ██     piece is the lively, danceable Murassa in makam Rast, with ney       ██
 ██     and tanbur sections answering each other in big band style. The      ██
 ██     taksims performed by the different neyzen on the velvety             ██
 ██     background provided by the others are brilliant, and the solemn      ██
 ██     voices of the musicians intoning holy songs have a powerful          ██
 ██     evocative quality, creating images of stately mosques in a           ██
 ██     Ramazan sunset, heightened by the voice of kaside (singer)           ██
 ██     Mehmet Kemiksiz. Besides Filiz one can hear Salih Bilgin and         ██
 ██     Volkan Yilmaz, covering almost three generation on neyzens.          ██
 ██     Creatively the Cd provides a contrast to stately hymns with a        ██
 ██     silvery rendition of a Thracian folk songs, the ney sinuous and      ██
 ██     sensual as much as a wedding clarinet: the energetic and             ██
 ██     tasteful rhythm is provided by Fahrettin Yarkin.                     ██
 ██     The solo ney recital, as fascinating as it is, can be a little       ██
 ██     austere for the uninitiated, but noone will miss enjoying this       ██
 ██     Cd.                                                                  ██
