Since 1995 the Berlin based Michael Vater aka Phonique is one of the
busiest DJs and producers in the capitol. Thanks to his own clubnights
e.g. the ôClub Parisô at Pfefferbank and regular bookings at Sternradio,
Tresor or polar.tv Phonique quickly became a firm constant in Berlinæs
nightlife and is also spending regular studio times with Alex Krⁿger
(Dub Taylor / Korsakov), Dixon (Wahoo / Sonar Kollektiv), with whom he
produced one album track and with whom he already did several edits for
JazzanovaÆs label, and his Poker Flat label mates Steve Bug or Martin
Landsky. Phoniqueæs versatility as producer and DJ was already mirrored
in his complex DJ-bookings, but also in the soulful compilation of
ôErotic Moments In House Vol.3ô and in his fabulous mixing for Erlend
OyeÆs DJ-Kicks compilation on !k7, where it becomes obvious how he likes
to create a musical dramaturgy.
After the success of Phoniqueæs last 12ô äThe Red Dressô (DES44) Dessous
releases the first single taken from his upcoming debut album
äIdentificationô now scheduled for release on October the 25th of 2004.
Two of the three 3 tracks are taken from this album. On the a-side we
have äX-Attackô, a fresh mixture of different old-school bass salads and
some new-school bleep dressing with some tasty beat arrangements beside.
This will satisfy hunger on the dancefloor. On the flip side you will
find two other delicious bits. äWork Togetherô feels warm and spheric,
like a perfect snack at midnight for all House Music lovers out there.
Last but not least, we have äRobottaô on B2. This sweety makes this EP
the ideal company for nights of delightful grooves. Nice chords and a
frisky melody brings you in this very light and pleasant mood.
Phonique shows us different meanings and moods of House Music. Sometimes
warm and melodic, sometimes rough and static, sometimes experimental and
old-school. Always something special for your mind.
