alphawezen are musician/composer ernst wawra (aka aeric) and
songwriter/singer asu yalcindag. the project alphawezen originally
created instrumental electronica but took a turn towards ambient
electronic pop after singer asu stepped on the scene. the fruitful
cooperation between these two like-minded artists resulted in
their first album l'apres-midi d'un microphone in 2001.
most of alphawezen's lyrics are written by asu yalcindag. her
graceful and yearning voice bestows the former insrumental layouts
with organic life. contacted 4 years ago by ernst, his melancholic
but mellow tracks immediately inspired her imagination. she
describes alphawezen's basic mood as the feeling you have as a
child when at the end of a beautiful summer holiday you wave
good-bye to the sea. listen to the music, immerse in the melody
and develop tangible images is how asu explains her creative
process.
asu and ernst were born in the same town (aachen) and even
attended the same grammar school - without ever having exchanged a
single word. amazingly, many years later a friend of ernst
suggested to send his instrumental tracks to a talented singer who
turned out to be asu. and that's when two kindred spirits started
to share their vision.
apart from composing and producing for alphawezen, ernst/aeric is
involved in several live and improvisational projects. he is
co-founder of the electro-acoustic audio and video project elektro
infarkt, as well as co-founder of and composer for well-known
modern dance company 0110move.
their second album comprises of 12 songs full of fleeting moments,
the basic mood of which swings between soothing melancholy and
mellow serenity. it comes with such consummate ease as if being
produced en passant. but it soon becomes obvious that the album is
thoroughly thought through and done with complete mastery.
alphawezen playfully explore the realm between art and kitsch,
experiment and calculation, yearning arrangements and hypnotic
dance tracks.
ps. promo was out some days ago, however there was an error on
tracks 3 and 4. this is the retail rip.
