▓ 1979 must have been a busy year for producer Quincy ▓
▓ Jones. In that year, three albums that bore his ▓
▓ production were released: George Benson's "Give Me ▓
▓ the Night," Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall," and ▓
▓ this offering from Rufus and Chaka Khan. "Masterjam" ▓
▓ is nowhere near a classic, but it does feature some ▓
▓ really irresistible jams. The kickoff song "Do You ▓
▓ Love What You Feel" is classic Quincy: a stellar horn ▓
▓ section, a catchy rhythm, both complimented by Khan's ▓
▓ gusty voice. "Any Love" grooves along well, and ▓
▓ "Heaven Bound" is a solid downtempo number. The rest ▓
▓ of the disc barely holds its own, offering a few ▓
▓ spots of filler that pop up, but never weigh the ▓
▓ album down. Also, the problem with a Quincy Jones ▓
▓ record is that it often sounds, well, like a Quincy ▓
▓ Jones record--no matter who sings it. However flawed, ▓
▓ "Masterjam" is a good disc that has its moments, but ▓
▓ it could have been excellent had it been more ▓
▓ consistent. ▓
