     Epic45 are unwittingly doing their bit for environmental
     awareness with this belated debut album (they formed in 1995);
     effortlessly invoking the ghost of a lazy summer afternoon
     spent lying in a boat, while inducing a serious physical desire
     to do it all again next summer. If Swampy and Co. were serious
     about stopping the developers they would have done better
     playing this to them than chaining themselves to trees.

     Back to the point: Epic45 have been tarred with the ambient
     brush, but there's a lot more depth here than the epithet
     implies. There's no lazy reliance on melody; rather, this
     English trio compensate for the lack of percussion by weaving
     multi-instrumental harmonies into the cloth. The results are
     frequently impressive: sometimes bringing the sun into a cold
     November day, at others summoning an image of a celestial
     choir. That they lean toward bucolic pastoralism will doubtless
     provoke comparisons with Japan's Susuma Yokota, a yoke (forgive
     the pun) they bear with ease.
