It might have taken just 19 days in New York
City but it is Kate Ceberano's 20 years in
the business that have helped her produce
what many will acknowledge as one of the
finest albums of R&B classics ever made.
Ceberano's new album - "19 Days in New York"
- is the result of an inspired partnership
between the singer and two of America's
original R&B recording godfathers, Chess and
Motown Records' Billy Davis and Leonard
Caston.
Holed up with a team of exceptional R&B
musicians in a New York studio, Davis and
Caston have taken Ceberano back to the roots
of modern music and discovered, along the
way, new qualities to her voice and new
depths to her already impressive talent.
Clive Hodson, head of ABC Music, was blown
away as soon as he heard the first
recordings from NYC and believes old and new
audiences will be bowled over by the new
album.
"Kate's been performing professionally since
she was 14 so a lot of people think they
know her style," says Hodson. "Wait 'til
they hear this. This is a grown up Kate,
interpreting some of the greatest songs ever
written, many of them made famous by some of
the most popular voices in the world, and
she makes them her own."
By choosing to record tracks like "Since I
fell for you", "Fever", "Higher and Higher"
and "At Last", everyone involved with "19
Days in New York" knew Ceberano was setting
herself up to be compared to some of the
classic rhythm and blues artists of the last
50 year or so. With Billy Davis at the helm,
however, they knew they'd be going back to
the source of the songs, recording them in a
completely original way, under the direction
of one of the original masters. The results
