░█ █░ ▀
█ Embalmed had been around since the early æ90s, █
█ released a couple of remarkable demos, █
█ unfortunately overlooked by most until Dark █
█ Blasphemies Records put them together and reissued █
█ them calling the release æBoiling HumansÆ named █
█ after the 1993 demo. Job well done. But thatÆs not █
█ it, Embalmed got back, released a massive full █
█ length album for the first time in 2014. IÆm █
█ surprised to see the band still having it, itÆs █
█ even upped the sound to make it relevant without █
█ losing the trademark sound, the old NYDM one █
█ comparable to Baphomet, Internal Bleeding and █
█ Suffocation with Pyrexia. █
█ Texas death metal did its bit during the late æ90s █
█ as well, bands like Sintury and Devourment █
█ starting the groove-laden brutal death metal style █
█ and gave hope to many. My preferred ones were █
█ Infernal Dominion and Infliction, while many new █
█ came to the fore with their style of █
█ forward-thinking brutal death metal, getting █
█ heavier as time passed, the notable ones being █
█ DeathBlow and Ingurgitate. There were the █
█ out-and-out brutal death metal ones too, signed on █
█ to bigger labels like Comatose and Ossuary, and of █
█ course Corpse Gristle/TXDM Underground but I █
█ prefer the ones with the original flavour. █
█ Embalmed has that and itÆs a sheer delight û █
█ riff-based not slam-based, death metal with the █
█ essence intact, song structures in place, not █
█ overdoing the brutality aspect and keeping it █
█ effective. ThereÆs no song thatÆs filler, itÆs all █
█ well-placed and well-rounded, there are no silly █
█ samples and effects, just real death metal. Bands █
█ today have to understand how the band manages to █
█ extract the groove from the NYDM scene without █
█ resorting to dumb slam parts which is a █
█ degeneration of death metal because it doesnÆt █
█ involve any outstanding riffing. ItÆs hardly █
█ memorable either, but Embalmed has riffs that █
█ latch on to your head and compel your body to move █
█ in ways you donÆt know. █
█ Production is top-notch, gritty, thick and clear, █
█ the best way. Vocals are death metal, thatÆs the █
█ best way to put it, emphasizing on the right parts █
█ and the highlight is the riffing complemented by █
█ the right beats. This is a different kind of death █
█ metal in comparison to the overly technical and █
█ hyper-speed ones out there but this has substance, █
█ while they are easily forgotten. The old school █
█ charm is undeniable yet the band isnÆt milking it █
█ dry û itÆs taking its own sound forward in the █
█ best possible way rather than looking around █
█ seeing who is doing what. ItÆs not trendy. ItÆs █
█ the real thing. █
█ The new year has just started but already █
█ EmbalmedÆs æBrutal Delivery of VengeanceÆ is one █
█ of my contenders for the best death metal album of █
█ this year û thereÆs nothing outstanding but IÆm █
█ hard-pressed to pick any faults with it. ItÆs just █
█ damn good, so near perfect for what the bandÆs █
█ doing with its sound. With this release, Embalmed █
█ goes right up there with Blaspherian as my current █
█ death metal favourites from Texas. █
