CONCERT REVIEW - Tibetan Freedom Concert

In a nutshell, it was a collision of Adam Yauch of the
Beastie Boys' worlds; that is, rap, alterna-rock and
serene Buddhism crossed paths in a field, and everybody
appeared to have a good time. The show was refreshingly
free of any Miller Lite banners or other such corporate
sponsorship. The worst thing you could get for yourself
at the concession stands was a big plate of
barbecue--no beer or cigarettes, only smoothies, free
earplugs and Tibetan tchotchkes, among other healthful
products. Via speakers, information stands and a tent
which featured ever-chanting monks, attendees were
provided information about the Chinese occupation and
mistreatment of the Himalayan nation, but organizers
stopped short of heavy-handedly bombarding the 100,000
punters with info.
