       █          Catchy and melancholic from experienced duo          █
       █                                                               █
       █          With roots in a variety of musical projects          █
       █          each apart in different places the former            █
       █          Vision Talk singer Richard Flow, whoÆs also          █
       █          been involved in Strangel and Haze For Sale,         █
       █          and the former Basswood Dollies singer and           █
       █          Cat Rapes Dog member John Lindqwister joined         █
       █          up together as Machinista for a little more          █
       █          than two years ago.                                  █
       █                                                               █
       █          After releasing a number of samples and              █
       █          giving a few gigs around the country in 2013         █
       █          they signed up with Nick Quarmæs newly               █
       █          formed and positively offensive label                █
       █          Juggernaut Music Group. The first EP                 █
       █          ôArizona Lightsö was released this spring            █
       █          and after a few minor delays theyÆve now             █
       █          delivered the physical release of their              █
       █          debut album ôXenoglossyö.                            █
       █                                                               █
       █          On top of catchy, angular, minimal and               █
       █          analogue-actavebass-heavy arrangements               █
       █          Machinista delivers eleven synthpop songs in         █
       █          the more melancholy template that is                 █
       █          sonically reminiscent of Vision Talks final          █
       █          album ôDistancesö (2011), albeit with a              █
       █          consistently slightly darker tone.                   █
       █                                                               █
       █          John Lindqwisteræs emotional vocal style,            █
       █          with the original, plaintive and melancholy          █
       █          tone û that could be placed somewhere in             █
       █          between Marian Gold (Alphaville) and Robert          █
       █          Smith (The Cure) û is consistently very              █
       █          strong and topped with many stylish choirs           █
       █          when he delivers the well-written lyrics             █
       █          that processes a series of contemporary              █
       █          existential issues and topics at both major          █
       █          and universal as well as more private and            █
       █          personal levels.                                     █
       █                                                               █
       █          Machinistaæs strengths lies in the simple            █
       █          but oh so ingenious melodies and although            █
       █          the quality of the song material dips                █
       █          slightly in a few places itÆs consistently           █
       █          strong with a number of stylish and chorus           █
       █          strong tracks like ôArizona Lightsö,                 █
       █          ôMolecules and Carbonö, ôSalvationö,                 █
       █          ôPushing the Angels Astrayö and ôLove and            █
       █          Hate Songö as well as the different and very         █
       █          raw detour ôWastedö (with guest appearance           █
       █          by Alice in Videoland singer Toril                   █
       █          Lindquist), the ballad ôSummersaultö, the            █
       █          concluding ôThe Blues and the Redsö and the          █
       █          well executed cover version of David BowieÆs         █
       █          ôHeroesö.                                            █
       █                                                               █
       █          Richard Flow and John Lindqwister are no             █
       █          spring chicken and itÆs heard clearly on             █
       █          ôXenoglossyö. The album is very strong and           █
       █          gives the band every chance you could wish           █
       █          for to make great success in front of black          █
       █          dressed seas of fans both on domestic and            █
       █          international waters.                                █
