Bongripper is known for their longer, sludgy, darker songs.
Their new record Miserable has no surprises when it comes to
length. This record has 3 songs that equal to about 65
minutes. The great thing about this record is the intro and
the ending to the second song. Lots of dark ambient noise to
really break up the record.
I think it might be a little more slower/stonery than their
previous records, if you could believe that. It's dark stoner
sludge at its finest. I was even headbanging slowly at my
desk; it's super catchy for this kind of metal. But definitely
not for those who are a little more impatient with their music
or are looking for something a bit faster. In fact, it made me
feel stoned without even smoking. Powerful stuff.
The second song, 'Descent' picks up, but not by much. I really
love the noisy darkness towards the end that lasts for about 6
minutes. It just give a roundness to this album that it needs.
The album now becomes spooky stoner metal. Far out, man.
The third and final song, 'Into Ruin', is the longest song,
almost reaching 30 minutes. It's the perfect way to end the
album. It's definitely the heaviest of the 3 songs, and it has
awesome guitar sounds you don't normally hear from Bongripper.
It somewhat abruptly ends, but I think it's a great way to go
out on this album.
If you are a stoner, or into dark sludge there is no reason
not to pick up this album.
